How to Spend a Week in Carriacou
Some people occasionally ask how many days you really need to “do” Carriacou. Well, Bunny has now done roughly 2,200 days here and can confidently report that it’s still not nearly enough…
If you’re visiting Carriacou purely for a holiday, however, Bunny thinks one week is just about perfect. That gives you enough time to savour what is uniquely Carriacou: the unhurried pace of life, proper beach liming, lazy mornings, cheerful meals out and evenings spent star-gazing under some of the clearest skies in the Caribbean.
Most people stay on average for a few nights but often wish they had stayed much longer.
So what might a week in Carriacou look like while staying at Bunny’s Beach Bums Carriacou (obviously)? Perhaps something like this.
Day 1 — Arrival & Immediate Relaxation
Arrive, clear your head of whatever chaos you left behind and either be picked up by Bunny’s trusted taxi driver or collect your rental car.
Stop for groceries along the way, then head up to Beach Bums, take it all in, and have your first celebratory dip in the plunge pool. Fire up the BBQ for a quick, easy dinner and end the evening properly: stargazing from the oversized hammock, wondering why you don’t live like this all the time.
Day 2 — Paradise Beach & Sandy Island
Enjoy a slow self-made breakfast at Beach Bums (there is absolutely no rush here), read in the hammock, dip in the pool, admire the view, repeat as necessary.
Eventually venture out to Paradise Beach for a stroll and lunch at Paradise Beach Club. From there, hop on their speedboat to Sandy Island and enjoy your very own deserted-island fantasy.
Return in time for sunset at Paradise Beach before heading back “home”.
Day 3 — Beach Hopping & Carriacou Fine Dining
Spend the morning exploring the beaches of the St. Louis peninsula — you’ll have three beautiful options within easy walking distance. Swim, snorkel and top up that Caribbean glow.
In the evening, go for fine dining, Carriacou style at The Original Slipway or The Round House. Or head to Gallery Bistro in Tyrrel Bay for delicious British-Indian curries (Bunny’s personal favourite and worth planning your day around).
Day 4 — Boat Day (The Best Kind of Day)
Take a full-day boat trip with Lambi Queen Tours or Froggy’s Reef Tours (Froggy can even pick you up directly from St. Louis — temptingly convenient).
Expect a glorious day of boating, deserted islands, snorkeling with turtles, an underwater sculpture park and beaches that seem Photoshopped.
You’ll return happily sun-kissed, slightly salty and with just enough energy left for, you guessed it, more stargazing from the Beach Bums hammock.
Day 5 — Island Exploring
Take a leisurely island tour by car. Don’t miss the viewpoint at Princess Royal Hospital or the historic windmill ruins.
Pack lunch and head north to the ridiculously gorgeous Petite Carenage for a beach picnic.
Afterwards, stroll through Windward, home of Carriacou’s proud boat-building tradition. Nearby you’ll also find the poetic Tibeau “cemetery in the sea” and the historic Ningo Well — an introductory but meaningful glimpse into the island’s past.
If your timing is right, finish the day with excellent pizzas at Pizza Meh Heart (Thursday–Sunday evenings only — plan accordingly).
Day 6 — Anse La Roche Escape
Start with a stroll in Hillsborough and enjoy a smoothie at Blendit.
Then meet Tim’s boat for the short ride to Anse La Roche, one of the island’s most beautiful and blissfully remote beaches.
Swim, snorkel, sunbathe, explore and prepare for legendary BBQ lunch with tropical drinks at Tim's Sunset Beach Bar & Restaurant. You will not leave hungry — in fact, Bunny strongly recommends bringing a container from Beach Bums so you can take leftovers home (future you will be grateful).
Day 7 — One Last Lime
On your final day, enjoy a slow morning back at Beach Bums.
Then head once more toward Paradise Beach. On the way, stop at the charming garden restaurant Fig & Bluggoe for a quick bite (Tuesday doubles are a must if you’re lucky with timing).
Spend your last afternoon liming, possibly sipping a rum punch and enjoying the rare luxury of a beach that still isn’t crowded.
Back at Beach Bums, gather your remaining snacks, a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine, then head to either the Black or White Sand Beach for a sunset picnic — the perfect way to savour your final Carriacou moments before real life inevitably intrudes again.
And even this just scratches the surface. There’s plenty more to do: scuba diving, hiking, fishing, live music, not to mention Carriacou’s wonderful annual events from Carnival (Kayak Mas) to Lobster & Lambie Festival.
Carriacou may be a small, but it punches above its weight!
Then again, you can easily spend a full week (or more) just staying put. That’s the beauty of it - there’s something for everyone.
So… who’s ready to book?
