What to Do in Grenada?
So you’ve booked a holiday to Grenada (hurrah!) and now you’re wondering what to do and where to go while holidaying on the Spice Isle. Fear not, Bunny has you covered. Check out Bunny’s recommendations for the Best 30 Things To Do in Grenada. In alphabetical order, in case you were wondering.
1. Annandale Falls
Grenada is practically bursting with waterfalls, and Annandale is one of the easiest to visit. Just a 20-minute drive from St. George’s, this small but charming cascade is perfect for a quick nature fix. Just time your visit to avoid cruise ship hordes, and for the love of all things fluffy, do not support anyone exploiting captive Mona monkeys on site. Instead, grab a drink at Wild Orchid restaurant next to the falls and enjoy the view like a civilized human.
2. Beach Hopping
Yes, Grand Anse is the crown jewel, but Grenada’s coastline has plenty of other hidden gems. Check out BBC Beach for turquoise perfection, La Sagesse for a palm-lined paradise, Bathway Beach for a wilder dip, Magazine Beach for Bunny’s personal fave, and Levera Beach before it changes forever due to ongoing construction.
3. Belmont Estate
Belmont Estate is the site of a 17th century plantation, a place to indulge in local history, cocoa, and farm-to-table dining. They offer a variety of interesting chocolate and farm tours on site but if you’re short on time, it’s also a nice place to stop for a quick lunch and a chocolate fix. Too bad they have also decided to keep captive wildlife on site, there’s really no need for that.
4. The Carenage
St. George’s is often touted as the prettiest capital in the Caribbean. Who is Bunny to argue? While it’s not packed with attractions, the Carenage in St. George’s is perfect for a picturesque stroll, best enjoyed in the morning or late afternoon when the light is just right for your photos with colourful buildings and fishing boats in the background.
5. Cayaks Clear-Bottom Kayaking
A clear-bottom kayak rental at the BBC beach is must for those who believe a vacation isn’t complete without a curated Instagram moment. Paddle through Grenada’s turquoise waters in a transparent kayak while getting the perfect shot for your feed. Bonus points if, unlike Bunny, you manage to look effortlessly glamorous while doing it.
6. Concord Falls
At 65 feet tall, Concord Falls is another lovely waterfall in Grenada. Just beware of the sad sight of caged Mona monkeys on site. Don’t support this animal abuse, Bunny says. Otherwise, Concord Falls is a beautiful stop on your itinerary with cool, refreshing water perfect for a quick dip or observing the local daredevils who make the jump from the top into the pool below.
7. Drive Around the Island
A scenic drive around Grenada is a good option for most tourists, Bunny says. Even better—get someone else to do the driving. The roads are winding, the views are spectacular, and the island’s interior is a lush, mountainous wonderland. The beautiful coastline is dotted with picturesque fishing communities and small villages with some golden opportunities for photographers.
8. Fort Frederick
One of Grenada’s historical forts, Fort Frederick played an integral part in the struggle between the French and British for control of the island. Today, it is one of the best preserved forts in Grenada. A short but steep climb rewards visitors with sweeping views of St. George’s and beyond. It’s an especially nice stop on a sunny day.
9. Fort George
Currently under renovation, Fort George has more than 300 years of history. It is best known as the place where Grenada’s former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop was executed during the 1983 revolution. Even though the fort itself is not currently open to tourists, you can still visit for the spectacular views and a dose of history. It’s worth the climb and one of Bunny’s favourite viewpoints in Grenada.
10. Grand Anse Beach
Grand Anse Beach is famous for a reason: two miles of pure, white sand, gentle waves, and more than enough space to find your perfect sunbathing spot. There are bars, restaurants and dive shops nearby, but somehow it never feels too crowded. No wonder it regularly makes an appearance on various listings of the best beaches in the world.
11. Grand Anse Craft & Spice Market
The Craft & Spice Market on Grand Anse can be a hit-or-miss experience depending on the day—either packed with cruise ship passengers or eerily quiet. Still, it is a good spot for souvenirs, particularly if you love spices. A refreshing cocktail at Esther’s Bar next door completes the experience.
12. Grand Etang National Park
Grand Etang is an essential stop in Grenada for nature lovers. Lush rainforests, hiking trails, a crater lake, and if you’re lucky, wild Mona monkeys (not the cruel, captive kind) await you. You can make this a quick stop or spend the whole day hiking - preferably with a local guide if you venture on the longer trails. Bunny’s knees still hurt from the Mount Qua Qua hike.
13. Grenada National Museum
Grenada doesn’t have many museums, but if you visit one, make it this one. It is located right next to the House of Chocolate in St. George’s so you can reward yourself with a sweet bite afterwards. It’s a quick but enlightening stop on your Grenada itinerary.
14. High Tea at Tower Estate
The Tower Estate is a 100-year old beautiful, historical estate where you can stroll through lush, tropical gardens and indulge in proper English afternoon tea service. An intriguing blue tea is served here with delicious sandwiches, devilled eggs and various mouthwatering cakes.
15. Hotel Day Passes
Many Grenada hotels offer day passes for those who want to lounge by the pool with a cocktail but aren’t staying overnight. Call ahead to enquire about day passes in places like True Blue, Coyaba, Mount Edgecombe or the ultra-swanky Silversands.
16. House of Chocolate
The House of Chocolate is a tiny but delightful spot in St. George’s. Pop in for a chocolate-themed treat—cakes, ice cream, artisanal chocolate bars. Basically, it's a sweet tooth’s dream and your diet’s worst nightmare. Not to be missed.
17. Levera Beach Turtle Watching
If you time your visit right, you might see the majestic (and huge!) leatherback turtles nesting in Grenada. The season runs from March to June and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for nature-lovers. Local community guides organise tours to Levera Beach in North Grenada.
18. Merveilles Entertainment Hub
For a dose of the super rich lifestyle, visit the sleek, new Merveilles Entertainment Hub in Port Louis Marina. You can enjoy a cocktail overlooking the gorgeous infinity pool and be surrounded by splendid mega yachts docked at the Marina. The food is pretty good too - just don’t expect anything to be cheap.
19. Mt. Carmel Waterfall
Mt. Carmel is Bunny’s personal favorite waterfall in Grenada. It is easy to reach, not (yet) commercialized, and blissfully quiet most of the time. It is also easy to visit independently. To make your visit even more special, try to catch Grenada’s best (vegan) chef Joachim Jammeal’s special cookouts at Carmel Waterfalls. Bunny is dying to experience that herself.
20. Pearls Airport
Grenada’s old airport is a must for aviation nerds. The sight of old, abandoned Soviet planes in the Caribbean is delightfully unexpected. There are some pretty cool photo opportunities here.
21. River Antoine Rum Distillery
The oldest rum distillery in Grenada, River Antoine Rum produces rum much in the same way as they did back in the 18th century. They have the oldest working waterwheel in the Caribbean and tons of rustic, somewhat crumbling charm. If you’re looking for an authentic, historic rum distillery where you can sip something seriously strong, this is your place.
22. Savvy Sailing
Caribbean sailing? Yes, please! Private day charters with Savvy Sailing offer gorgeous views, salty breezes, and a perfect way to experience the traditional Carriacou sloop. You can go for a sunset sail, snorkelling expedition or do a longer island exploration. It’s all fabulous, Bunny says.
23. Scuba-Diving and Snorkelling
Bunny isn’t a diver herself, but she knows Grenada’s diving scene is phenomenal, especially around Carriacou. Luckily, there are a number of excellent dive shops to choose from. For casual snorkeling with your own equipment, try Magazine Beach or Portici Beach.
24. Spa Day
Grenada’s top hotels have amazing spas. Bunny’s favourite is the jaw-dropping spa at Silversands Grenada. Her other top picks for a day of pampering would include the new Six Senses La Sagesse or the Bali-inspired spa at La Luna. The cocoa-infused treatments at Calabash also sound like pure bliss.
25. Sunset Cocktails at the Beach
Sunset cocktails in the Caribbean are like croissants in France, simply a must. For your tipple, pick a west-facing beach on the Caribbean side of the island. Grand Anse and BBC Beach are obvious choices. Choose your vibe, grab a drink, and watch the sky do its thing. Maybe you’ll even be lucky enough to see the famous, but elusive “green flash”.
26. Tri-Island Chocolate Factory
Grenada makes world-class chocolate (not the sickening sugary stuff that passes for chocolate in the US). Visit Tri-island Chocolate Factory in Grenada to have a hands-on experience of the process and even make your own bars. Prepare to leave with a suitcase full of cocoa goodness.
27. Underwater Sculpture Park
Grenada boasts the world’s first underwater sculpture park - and now there’s one in Carriacou too! The Grenada park is best visited on a day when cruise ships aren’t in town. All dive shops on the island offer organised tours; going on your own independently is not really an option.
28. Welcome Stone
Fancy a little hike? A short but very steep climb to the Welcome Stone in the parish of Saint Patrick rewards you with a panoramic view of Grenada’s northern coast. On a clear day, you can see Carriacou from there. The location can be a bit tricky to find so a local guide or taxi driver in the know is recommended.
29. Yoga by the Sea
What is more relaxing than tropical yoga by the Caribbean sea? Not many things, if you ask Bunny. In Grenada, you are spoilt for choice. Bunny’s favourite yoga spots on the island include the yoga pavilions at La Luna, Spice Island Beach Resort and True Blue hotels. Namaste.
30. Visit Carriacou
Last but not least: Don’t forget to visit Grenada’s sister island Carriacou. You can take a ferry or the plane, come for a day or stay for a couple of nights. Just be warned: it’s possible you will fall in love with the island and make it your forever home, just like Bunny has done.
